The punk musicians of “Die Ärzte” opened the “Tagesthemen” on the night of the first. With guitar riffs they played the opening melody of the ARD newscast and said: “This is Doctor German TV with the songs of the day.” It was the first time live music was played on the show.

“Actually, the problem is that we take culture for granted, culture is always there,” Urlaub said. It has not been noted enough that the culture needs not only commercially successful band musicians like themselves, but an entire substructure: club operators, the so-called roadies, that is, technical and construction workers, as well as smaller bands that still They don’t have recording contracts. If that breaks, it will be “long-term damage,” he said.
People out of work for seven months
Drummer Bela B reported that due to the lack of opportunities to perform during the crisis, many of these people have been out of work for seven months. “We expect politicians to see this industry of 1.4 million people,” he said.
Car gigs or live gigs played no role for the band as a bridging option in the crown crisis. “That does not suit us. Our hearing has to rub,” says Bela B. The doctors had postponed their planned tour until next year. “We’ll probably have to come to terms with the fact that as long as Corona is as furious as he is now, the kinds of gigs we like to play just aren’t possible,” Urlaub said. For the smaller, lesser-known bands or club operators and technicians, the situation is worse.
