In a serious accident in the Bergedorf district of Hamburg, an articulated bus crashed into the station building and got stuck on the escalator. There were injuries. The cause is unclear.

An articulated bus crashed into the glass facade of the Hamburg-Bergedorf train station and only stopped at the building on the opposite side. In the images, you can see how the bus is stuck in the station building on an escalator and rises a few meters high above the floor of the underpass.

In the spectacular accident Wednesday, the bus driver and a passerby were slightly injured, fire spokesman Jan Ole Unger said. The passengers were not on the bus. “We were very lucky,” said Unger. The bus just lost passersby. He was wounded by flying glass shards.

The public bus had exploded on the way to the departure area, crossed the Kantstein and passed through the glass facade, a spokeswoman for the Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) said. She couldn’t say anything about the cause of the accident. The 58-year-old driver is very experienced and sensible, with long professional experience, she said. The amount of the damage is still unclear.

The fire department insured the vehicle against slipping. The station hall was closed. Firefighters and a rescue company finally removed the vehicle, which weighs about 18 tons, from the building.

According to their own statements, the emergency services needed a crane and a truck recovery vehicle with an extendable lift arm. Previously, first responders from the fire department had to remove a large glass façade panel to allow free access to the bus. The deployment with 35 fire lines ended after about five hours.
