WITHTwo sports car drivers arrested by police who are said to have been involved in a fatal accident on the Autobahn 66 between Wiesbaden and Frankfurt were released on Friday night. The lawyer for one of the two men confirmed this to Hessischer Rundfunk on Saturday. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, there is no longer any suspicion of “murder” in an illegal car race; this also eliminates the flight risk required for arrest warrants. An expert corrected the previous assumptions about the course of the accident, also based on a video of a witness.

In the accident that occurred a week ago near Hofheim (Main-Taunus-Kreis), a 71-year-old female driver was burned in her car. The Prosecutor’s Office had requested arrest warrants against three sports car drivers for low-motivation homicide with publicly dangerous means. All three would have at least approved of the fatal accident. According to Hessischer Rundfunk, the lawyer for one of the drivers involved argues that the allegation that an illegal race was the cause of the accident is no longer defensible. That is why the Public Ministry requested the release of the two drivers. Also, there is no risk of leakage.

One of those released is a 29-year-old man from the Rhein-Main area. According to police, he ran his Lamborghini to the middle railing and then to the 71-year-old woman’s car, which then caught fire. The man was initially hospitalized with minor injuries. The second suspect is a 26-year-old man who initially left the crash site and later turned himself in to the police. The search for the third driver involved in the accident continues.
