On Wednesday night, a fire broke out in the previously occupied house at Liebigstrasse 34. The State Security Police are investigating serious arson, attempted murder and serious breach of public order, police announced Thursday.
“Several incendiary devices were launched and at least one hit the building, as well as debris, bulky debris and mattresses in front of it,” a police spokesman told Tagesspiegel upon request. So far there are no suspects. Investigators are now looking for witnesses. The incendiary devices were thrown at the house by a group of twelve people.
Police said there were three security officers at the home when they dumped the incendiary devices. “Fortunately, they were not injured,” the spokesman said. The flames in front of the house would have reached meters high.
The fire department was alerted around 9 pm Approximately 30 personnel came out to put out the flames. According to a fire department spokesperson, around 50 cubic meters of garbage in front of the building caught fire. The fire was extinguished after about two hours.
The emergency services moved to the different floors of the house to find people in need or possible fire nests. As far as we know, there were no people in the building other than the security guards.

According to the police, there was also a fire on at least the ground floor of the building. According to initial findings, neighboring buildings were not damaged by the fire. So far it is not clear how high the damage to the house is.
Witness photographs show how the fire was extinguished. The bulky trash that had been removed from the house in recent days had apparently been stored in front of the building.
Several masked people were seen before the house fire, investigators said. A police spokesman confirmed this Thursday morning. In addition, about 50 people should have gathered at the scene, eyewitnesses reported.
Parts of the scene on the left blamed the owner, real estate developer Gijora Padovicz, for the fire that night. There was talk of a “hot renovation”, combustible material was deliberately piled up in front of the house. Padovicz could be aiming to bring down the ruined house. A confession letter has not yet come out.
On Twitter, however, there are photos and videos from an account that suggest it may have been arson – they were posted on the internet shortly before the fire broke out and show the trash. They also show that grave signs and lights were placed in front of the fence protecting the building.
A resident told the German press agency that there had been a vigil of the left wing extremist scene with candles and eternal lights in front of the previously occupied house at night.

The self-organized feminist house project “Liebig 34”, a symbol of the radical left-wing scene in Berlin, had long been a heated discussion. He was evacuated under protest on Friday two weeks ago. 57 people had been in the building at the time. At the peak, about 2,100 police officers from other federal states and the federal police were also on duty.
During a demonstration of the place, as a result of the eviction and the handover to the owner, despite a large police presence, violence broke out. Cars caught fire and windows were smashed.
Two years ago, a ten-year commercial lease for the resident association “Liebig 34” expired. In a long legal dispute, the owner who had terminated the association obtained the right. According to his own statements, he had not recently paid rent. (with dpa)
