State Ballet School Berlin: a dance scientist wants to remain a director – Berlin

An elite school is always something special; however, in the case of the State Ballet School and the Artistic School, the problem is not only in the special, but even in the unique area. This became clear on Monday when Chief Ralf Stabel’s exemption was tried in the labor court: he does not want to accept the exemption he gave on February 27.

As reported, Stabel is accused of jeopardizing the well-being of children under his leadership. In addition, it had allowed “a culture of fear” to exist and had undermined the involvement of committees required by school law. His lawyer stated that it was a “prejudice” of his client because he had not been heard by the commission of experts, which had confirmed the allegations in early May.

However, the attorney for the Senate Department of Education was unable to point out during the attempt to reach an agreement on Monday that it was probably not up to the committee not to start a conversation with Stabel: on the contrary, the committee’s director, Klaus Brunswicker had emphasized that Stabels Seite did not offer appointments for weeks. was received.

A school with a bachelor’s degree

Attorney Stabels mentioned in the brief hearing a detail that may still be of some importance when dealing with the ballet school issue. He pointed out why it would be difficult to find a comparable task for his client, who was a dance scientist and not a teacher.

This is exceptional even for an elite school, and even in the area of the vocational school, to which the ballet and art school formally belongs. The fact that Stabel still got the job is an indication that the Senate administration absolutely wanted him: to know that a dance scientist, especially a dance historian, has not learned to deal with children from the age of ten years or to take the Abitur. As a consequence, the school went from being a school to a dance institution, including a degree in “stage dance”, in which Stabel and the artistic director of the ballet school, Gregor Seyffert, worked as teachers. Both are also exempt from this task.

A unique job

Since finding a similarly constructed location in Berlin’s public service beyond the State Ballet School is considered impossible, there was no room for a friendly settlement on Monday. The next hearing is in September. Until then, both parties must express themselves in writing.

Seyffert’s appointment to the labor court is slated for May 18. It also takes action against your exemption.

Stabel had previously tried to end her exemption combined with a house ban through an urgent request. Due to lack of urgency, the court determined that it ruled in two cases.
