Union surprises KSC in minute 118
The SSV Ulm 1846 regional division caused another upset in the DFB Cup, eliminating the second division FC Erzgebirge Aue in the first round. Two years after winning the first round against then-cup champion Eintracht Frankfurt, the Ulm team beat Aue 2-0 (1-0) on Saturday night. Tobias Rühle (37th minute) and Felix Higl (90th) made the well-deserved victory for the hosts perfect with their goals in front of around 430 spectators at the Danube Stadium.
On the contrary, surprisingly little came from the Saxons. Philipp Zulechner could have put manager Dirk Schuster’s team ahead in the 29th minute, but the striker missed at Ulm’s gate. Subsequently, the guests found little solutions against coach Holger Bachthaler’s disciplined defending regional league team.
