Papenburg Meyer Werft’s new cruise ship, the “Spirit of Adventure”, is heading to the North Sea. The opening hours: Friesenbrücke in Weener, Jann-Berghaus-Brücke in Leer, and last but not least Ems Barrage in Gandersum. The ship should pass the Emden sea lock early Monday morning. “The ‘Spirit of Adventure’ will once again make the crossing in the direction of the North Sea backwards and with the support of two tugs. This type of transshipment has been tested due to the better maneuverability, ”the shipyard announced this Sunday.

Then tests in the North Sea
The ship of the British shipping company Saga Cruises will depart for technical and nautical tests in the North Sea, as announced by Meyer Werft. Delivery is scheduled for the next few weeks. The “Sprit of Adventure” has room for 999 passengers. It is the second ship that Meyer Werft has built for the British shipping company. The Papenburg-based company is facing the problem that the cruise industry is almost idle around the world and the organizers currently do not need any new ships.
The risk of infection must be reduced.
Due to the pandemic, the shipyard had postponed the planned Ems flyover to mid-August. According to Meyer Werft, the shipping company Saga Cruises had previously requested a move. With the subsequent crossing, the risk of infection with the coronavirus on board will be minimized: the longer the ship stays in Meyer Werft, the more interior work can be done in Papenburg, says Hackmann. This reduces the number of employees that must be on board during the Emspassage.
The crown pandemic has plunged the traditional Papenburg shipbuilder into crisis in recent months. A six-week production stop at the shipyard will come to an end on Monday. Then the company has increased security measures to avoid infection with the virus.
