According to Health Minister Spahn, this year 1.3 million doses of the vaccine can be delivered to the federal states. By the summer of 2021 there should be enough cans available for all Germans.

According to the Ministry of Health, the new coronavirus vaccine will be available in sufficient quantities in Germany by the summer. By the end of this year, the Biontech company could deliver 1.3 million cans to the federal states, Jens Spahn said im ARD morning magazine. The vaccine received EU approval on Monday. In his own words, Spahn expects 10 million more vaccine doses by the end of January. In the next month, 1.5 million more would be added if the vaccination of the American company Moderna is also approved in the EU, the minister explained.

Vaccinations for everyone in summer.

From Sunday vaccinations would begin, especially in nursing homes. “These cans will make a big difference to many care facilities,” Spahn said. However, it can be seen in the figures that vaccines must continue to be prioritized at least until the end of March.

All citizens of Germany can be offered a “vaccine” before the summer, provided that other vaccines that are in the final phase of studies are also approved. Then vaccinations could also be done in doctors’ offices. First, however, the vaccine must be administered in special centers, also to ensure prioritization.

Another bonus for nurses?

At the same time, Spahn called on the population to continue reducing contacts. The situation in the clinics is very tense: “There is a lot of work at the moment. Many people are talking about how they celebrate Christmas. The nurses will not come to celebrate much. They will have to work.” The citizens decided with their behavior now about “what happens next in the intensive care units.”

Regarding the employment situation in the health sector, she presented the perspective of improvements in the Corona premium for nurses. The decision for a 1000 euro bond was made in the summer in view of the infection events in the spring, the CDU politician told ZDF. After the second wave of infections, more violent and of the “maximum load”, it would be necessary to think about a new regulation for a tax-free bond next year.

Maximum number of deaths

Figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) also give an idea of how tense the situation is in many clinics. In the last 24 hours, 962 people have died in connection with Covid 19, more than ever since the outbreak of the pandemic in Germany.

Health authorities reported 24,740 new infections with the pathogen to the RKI since yesterday. That’s about 5,000 more cases than the day before and about 3,000 fewer than a week ago. However, the state of Saxony did not send figures to the institute on Tuesday of last week. According to the RKI, the so-called seven-day incidence has dropped somewhat: to 195.1 from 197.6 the last. The value indicates how many new infections occur per 100,000 inhabitants in a week.

Saxony most affected

The situation is currently more critical in Saxony. According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence here is 414.1. As of yesterday alone, local health authorities have reported an additional 2,727 corona infections. More than 16,800 residents were infected in one week. The largest access point in Saxony is the Bautzen district with an incidence of 602.2 in seven days.
