DLast year the Federal Ministry of Health awarded contracts worth around 4.6 billion euros to external companies without a tender. This stems from the federal government’s response to a small request from the leader of the left-wing parliamentary group Dietmar Bartsch, which WELT AM SONNTAG has received in advance.
Consequently, the home of Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) awarded 210 contracts without bidding, the vast majority of all contracts awarded by federal ministries in this way. During the first peak of the Corona crisis in spring 2020, the bidding right that would otherwise be applicable was suspended due to the particular emergency.
In view of the scope and large number of awards without a tender, Bartsch demands that the Health Ministry “clear the table” and present an accountability report to the Bundestag in the next week.
This should show “to whom, why, how much money flowed through which corridor,” said Bartsch WELT AM SONNTAG. “Obviously, we had to make acquisitions quickly during the crisis. But the award of 4.6 billion euros without a tender is under considerable suspicion in view of the corruption issues, ”said the left-wing politician.
