Wiesbaden – On October 14, environmental activists rappelled down from a bridge on the A3 near Idstein, Hesse. There was a traffic jam. In the end, a Skoda driver (29) crashed into a truck – artificial coma.

Well, not even two weeks after the terrible accident, the activists have tied up the A3 again! This is confirmed by the BILD highway police.

At around 6.45 am, three people had cordoned off a pedestrian bridge. An activist: “By hanging up, we create artificial traffic jam and attention.”

Therefore, the A3 Frankfurt-Cologne has been closed in both directions between Wiesbadener Kreuz and Niedernhausen due to the police operation since the early hours of the morning. The bridge is near Wiesbaden-Breckenheim.

The activists are, again, opponents of the controversial A49 expansion. An image of the action was posted on Twitter, with the hashtag #dannibleibt.

Unbelievable – there was also abseiling action on the A661 in the morning. According to information from the BILD, there are people on the Offenbach-Kaiserlei road. There was also a similar campaign on the A5 near Zeppelinheim (Neu-Isenburg). On Monday morning activists apparently tried to stop all traffic during rush hour.

In a press release Monday morning, the activists cited the reason for the blockades: “Several groups operating independently blocked several roads earlier today in the week. Among other things, the action aims to put pressure on the government of the state of Hesse, especially the Greens, who betray all ecological values with their consent to the construction of the A49 and thus endanger livelihoods of the younger generation. “

Lockdown accident on October 14

In protest against the clearing of the Danneröder forest for the expansion of the A49, two people lowered themselves with ropes from a motorway bridge between Idstein and Bad Camberg on October 14 at 10 am Police blocked the A3 for security reasons and the SEK stepped up to rescue the blockers from the bridge. The terrible accident happened at 11 a.m.: the 29-year-old collided with his Skoda in a truck, suffered serious head injuries and went into an artificial coma.

Of the seven detained activists (two men and five women), six were quickly released. An arrest warrant was issued for a man, but it was immediately suspended. A lawyer assured that he would send a court summons to his client. The prosecution is investigating the activists on suspicion of duress and negligent bodily injury.

Fight for the Dannenröder Forest

The planned section of the A49 runs from Stadtallendorf to Gemünden (Felda). Around 64 hectares of forest will be cut down for this purpose, of which 27 in the Dannenröder forest. The forest is privately owned and, according to Hubertus Bieneck, director of operations of the forest owners’ association Schenck zu Schweinsberg, is around 1,000 hectares in size.

Environmental and climate protectors consider the highway project outdated because it gets in the way of a traffic change. Proponents, on the other hand, expect less traffic noise in surrounding villages, shorter distances for commuters, and a more direct connection to the road network for businesses.
