Senate decides on emergency daycare care and night-out restrictions

SedanDue to the third corona wave, additional contact restrictions apply from Good Friday in Berlin, which will be tightened again after Easter. In addition, the nurseries should go back into emergency operation next week, meaning they will only offer limited care. The Senate agreed to this on Thursday. The Berliner Zeitung had previously tabled a corresponding draft resolution.

From Friday night between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., people can only be outdoors alone or as a couple. During the day, the previous regulations are maintained, according to which meetings outdoors and at home are only allowed with a maximum of five people from two households. In both cases, children under the age of 14 are not counted, so they can also be included.

Private meetings: further tougher after Easter days

After the Easter days starting on Tuesday (April 6), the rules for private indoor gatherings will be tightened again. During the day, only members of the same household and one other person can stay together. Again, children up to 14 years old are not counted. So visitors are no longer allowed between 9 pm and 5 am at night. The members of a family have to support themselves.

The first reactions followed quickly. Norbert Cioma, president of the Berlin State Police Union (GdP), is skeptical of the move: “It is a logical step and even if the Berlin police cannot control all the streets in all areas, that touch of staying with two people is always easier to be verified as personal contact restrictions in which they have to prove the living conditions in the bureaucratic act. The last few days have made it clear once again that most people still adhere to the rules, but many have forgotten what we are currently up against. We call on people to show each other during Easter as well. “

Basically, the unionist doubts the legality of the Senate’s decision. Politicians must ensure that they respect the freedoms established in the Basic Law. “It remains to be seen whether mere regulation is enough to restrict these rights.” In the end, the courts would likely decide on this.

Nurseries are formally closed, emergency care is provided

After Easter, the nurseries will also formally close again as of Thursday (April 8). However, they must offer emergency care for the children of families that depend urgently on it and in which at least one of the parents works in a particularly important occupation, a relevant call for the system.

Single parents who cannot arrange another childcare option and parents whose children need childcare for special educational reasons should also be able to take advantage of the offer. There was a similar regulation before, until childcare was restarted in March.

The draft resolution on child care literally stated in advance: “Single parents who cannot arrange another child care option and parents who need child care for special and urgent educational reasons can also take advantage of emergency care.”

Just last Saturday, the Senate decided on a package of new crown rules that have been in effect since Wednesday. As a result, cautious easing remains, but has been supplemented by more stringent requirements, especially for testing, for businesses, and for the mask requirement.

An important point: Berliners must present a negative Corona test for shopping in stores, for visits to hairdressers or beauty salons, museums and galleries. This does not apply to supermarkets, pharmacies or drugstores that were also open during closing.

Companies should offer rapid corona tests

Companies are required to offer their non-home-based employees at least twice a week rapid corona tests and to move at least half of their workplaces from the office to the home office.

In closed rooms, such as shops, doctor’s offices, museums, hospitals, but also on buses or trains, an FFP2 mask is required to ensure better protection against infections. The simplest surgical masks are no longer enough since Wednesday.
