Second round election in Wuppertal: this is the starting position after the 2020 local elections

Since November 2018, there has been a city council alliance between the CDU and the Greens. Jamaica’s negotiations with the FDP had failed. Now, Schwarz-Grün entered the 2020 local elections with a joint candidate, Professor Uwe Scheidewind. But above all the CDU had to yield in the election of the city council, almost five percentage points dropped to only 24.2 percent. The Greens, on the other hand, benefited almost as much and came to 19.6 percent.

The SPD remains the strongest force in the city hall with 28.9 percent and slight losses (-1.1 percent). The incumbent mayor Andreas Mucke won fewer votes than Schneidewind in the first ballot, but the race is not hopeless for him.
