Sebastian Vettel should leave Ferrari at the end of the year

Sebastian Vettel has so far been unable to fulfill his dream of winning the world title with Ferrari. It looks like he’ll only have a chance to do it in Formula 1 this year. The separation has apparently already been made.

Thunderbolt in Formula 1: For Sebastian Vettel, the Ferrari chapter probably ends after the 2020 season. That was reported Monday night, among others, by the Bild newspaper and the specialized magazines “Auto, Motor und Sport” and “motorsport-total.com”. Therefore, Vettel and Scuderia were unable to agree on an extension of the expiring contract. Neither Ferrari nor the Vettel spokeswoman were initially available for comment, but official confirmation could follow on Tuesday.

How Vettel will continue from 2021 is not entirely clear. The Renault factory team, like McLaren, is said to be interested in German, but it’s not impossible to say goodbye to Formula 1.

Vettel’s Ferrari outside after six years would no longer be completely unexpected. The 32-year-old, formerly four-time world champion with Red Bull, arrived at Maranello in 2015 to lead the proud but hungry racing team back to the title. Until now, this has not been possible against Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton, and more: Vettel was overtaken by new rival Charles Leclerc last year. Monegasse recently signed a contract valid until 2024.

Last chance for the desired title with the Scuderia

Ferrari, on the other hand, are said to have offered Ferrari only an extension for a year or two to significantly reduce wages, now Vettel has apparently declined. More recently he had already pointed out that he had always signed “three-year contracts”: “I am older now, but I don’t feel old.”

The 2020 season, which has not yet started due to the crown pandemic, is expected to start in early July with no viewers. Like his idol Michael Schumacher, he wanted to rise to the throne for the most famous of all racing teams. This project could finally fail in just over six months.

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl recently assured that current drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz junior will continue to sit in the cockpit. Red Bull trusts Max Verstappen as the title contender. At Mercedes, there’s still nothing new about Hamilton, whose contract will also expire later this year. A change from the British seems hard to imagine. And Vettel and Hamilton in a team, if he shouldn’t continue with Valtteri Bottas at Silver Arrows, it seems very difficult to imagine.
