An employee was fatally injured at a sawmill in Schmallenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia. The 23-year-old operated a large circular saw on Saturday morning. A police spokesman said she was caught between the parts of the machine and was trapped. The young woman died at the scene of the accident.

The machine is a circular saw for edging and trimming. This pulls the tree trunks onto itself through a conveyor belt and processes them further. “The processing is done autonomously, one person controls the machine through a control panel,” he said.

According to initial findings, the young woman was responsible for the control panel when she got caught between the hydraulic parts of the saw and got stuck. It was not initially clear how it got into the machine. According to the police, the criminal police and the department of safety and health at work of the Arnsberg district government have launched the investigation.
