FC Schalke are under a lot of pressure after the debacle earlier in the season. Coach David Wagner is fired. Apparently there is a secret list of successors.

  • In the FC Schalke* Burns after 8-0 debacle against FC Bayern * Lichterloh
  • Coach David wagner he was fired after the Bremen game.
  • Who could follow him with the squires? Sandro Black, Ralf rangnick and other spectacular names are exchanged

Munich – The Bundesliga* has only two days of play. Really a time when the clubs have no major problems, because after the summer holidays they are still in the discovery phase. But not so with FC Schalke 04 *.

In Gelsenkirchen it burns after 0: 8 at the start against triple winners FC Bayern * and the 3-1 home defeat to Werder Bremen in brilliant fashion. Because apparently they have The button Their problem from the catastrophic second half of the previous season hasn’t been able to control them for a long time. Throughout the seasons, Schalke have been waiting for a sense of accomplishment for 18 games (!).

That this against the headline Champions League Winner* would not actually succeed it was already clear in advance. However, it was the way the entire Coach team performed that was of concern. David wagner at the Allianz Arena * for terror. No body language, no self-confidence: after the game against Bremen, Wagner was fired.

Schalke’s last victory was more than eight months ago and dates back to January 17, 2020. On Matchday 18, Knappen beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-0.

FC Schalke 04: Sacked coach David Wagner! Spectacular candidates on the successor list

“I expect a significant increase in performance against Bremen, which is also reflected in the result,” said Jochen Schneider after the debacle against Bayern at the image. But there wasn’t much to see in the 1: 3 home game.

Apparently the supervisory board S04 is said to have already commissioned Schneider possible successors by Wagner contact. It’s supposed to be like this since the summer List which should have some prominent names. But who would be a suitable successor to David wagner? We name some candidates.

  • Manuel Baum (Germany U20)

Manuel Baum is of course well known in the Bundesliga, and is now being traded as Wagner’s successor in Gelsenkirchen! According to information from Sky, the former Augsburg manager is the top seed for the position in S04. The DFB junior coach was apparently seen on training ground before Wagner was fired. Talent coach Norbert Elgert, who acted as interim coach for next Saturday’s game at RB Leipzig, denied intervening.

Baum, 41, coached FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga from 2016 to 2019. He has been the under-20 national coach since July 2019.

As a “fighting pig” he was the leader of the Eurofighters, who sensationally won the 1997 UEFA Cup against Inter Milan. Wilmots was acting coach of FC Schalke in 2003 before gaining his first coaching experience at St. Truiden in Belgium. From 2012 to 2016 he coached the Belgian team and most recently worked as a national coach in Iran and Ivory Coast. However, with limited success.

Wilmots is currently without a club and would therefore be available immediately. In addition, as a club legend he would have a great reputation among the S04 fans. Perhaps he would be exactly the right person to give a new confidence to the young and inexperienced squad of squires.

FC Schalke 04: spectacular names! Who could be Wagner’s successor?

  • Ralf Rangnick (no association)

Rangnick has also coached Schalke twice (2004/05 and 2011). During his second engagement in Gelsenkirchen, he suffered from exhaustion and had to resign immediately. In his 88 games as Schalke coach, Rangnick had the most points (1.82) of all Schalke coaches.

Rangnick said on the day of Wagner’s discharge: “I’ve been off for eight weeks, so to speak,” Rangnick said on “Sky90.” “If I were to say now that I am not interested in Schalke at all, I would be lying. Of course, Schalke is a club with which I will always be connected, also from the heart.”

Last summer he was traded as AC Milan coach, but in the end the deal did not materialize, which is why Rangnick is currently without a club and therefore available immediately. It is questionable, however, if Rangnick is making the situation for Schalke. Especially since it would have to be given much more competence than is now the case with Wagner. However, from the S04 environment, you can hear that Rangnick would be trusted to do the job.

  • Sandro Schwarz (no association)

The former FSV Mainz 05 manager has been mentioned over and over again in Gelsenkirchen in recent days. However, Schwarz would be a Wagner-like type of coach, so he would rather go through the friend lane. He did a decent job at Rheinhessen for over two years, which was also heard at FC Schalke.

What speaks for Schwarz is that he is currently available and that his emotional nature could bring a breath of fresh air to the young Schalke team. However, he also “only” gained experience in Mainz. S04 bosses may not fully trust him for the Herculean task at Schalke.

FC Schalke: Wagner ahead of Aus, will Raúl be the successor?

  • Norbert Elgert (Schalke U19 coach)

In fact, it would be very romantic if Elgert became FC Schalke’s head coach. After all, the coach has been producing the Knappenschmiede’s greatest talents since 2003 and helped players like Mesut Özil and Julian Draxler break through. Elgert knows players like Ahmed Kutucu, Levent Mercan or Can Bozdogan from the inside out and could provide a leap in performance between talents. However, Elgert does not want to be in the Bundesliga spotlight and the 63-year-old generally prefers to focus on youth work.

  • Raúl (Trainer Real Madrid Castilla)

The legendary forward played for FC Schalke between 2010 and 2012, and loved the fans in Gelsenkirchen. Since then, the Spaniard has had absolute hero status at Schalke. Raúl is currently coaching Real Madrid’s second team and has led the Real Under-19s to victory in the UEFA Youth League. It would be the next sensation if Schalke hired him as a manager. But that’s not really realistic …

FC Schalke on the trail of a possible Wagner successor: Is Sand a candidate?

  • Ebbe Sand (Denmark assistant coach)

Ebbe Sand would be as romantic as Wilmots, Raúl or Elgert. The Dane is also a cult at Schalke and has had little experience as a coach, but not yet as a head coach. He is currently an assistant coach for the Danish national team. But as Schalke coach in the current situation? It would probably be too great a risk for both parties.
