Schalke 04: coach David Wagner fired! Successor list with known candidates

Wilmots was acting coach of FC Schalke in 2003 before gaining his first coaching experience at St. Truiden in Belgium. From 2012 to 2016 he coached the Belgian team and most recently worked as a national coach in Iran and Ivory Coast. However, with limited success.

Wilmots is currently without a club and would therefore be available immediately. In addition, as a club legend he would have a great reputation among the S04 fans. Perhaps he would be exactly the right person to give a new confidence to the young and inexperienced squad of squires.

Rangnick has also coached Schalke twice (2004/05 and 2011). During his second engagement in Gelsenkirchen, he suffered from exhaustion and had to resign immediately. In his 88 games as Schalke coach, Rangnick had the most points (1.82) of all Schalke coaches.

The former FSV Mainz 05 manager has been mentioned over and over again in Gelsenkirchen in recent days. However, Schwarz would be a Wagner-like type of coach, so he would rather go through the friend lane. He did a decent job at Rheinhessen for over two years, which was also heard at FC Schalke.

What speaks for Schwarz is that he is currently available and that his emotional nature could bring a breath of fresh air to the young Schalke team. However, he also “only” gained experience in Mainz. S04 bosses may not fully trust him for the Herculean task at Schalke.

In fact, it would be very romantic if Elgert became FC Schalke’s head coach. Elgert knows players like Ahmed Kutucu, Levent Mercan or Can Bozdogan from the inside out and could provide a leap in performance between talents. The legendary forward played for FC Schalke between 2010 and 2012, and loved the fans in Gelsenkirchen. Since then, the Spaniard has had absolute hero status at Schalke. Raúl is currently coaching Real Madrid’s second team and has led the Real Under-19s to victory in the UEFA Youth League. It would be the next sensation if Schalke hired him as a manager.
