Saxony with the highest incidence
RKI reports nearly 11,000 new infections
The number of new infections reported in Germany according to RKI data is only around 11,000 cases; Exactly a week ago there were more than 5,000 more. However, this is not a reliable sign of a trend reversal. Because fewer reports were expected in advance.
In Germany, almost 11,000 new corona virus infections were recorded in one day. The total number of corona infections recorded in Germany since the start of the pandemic increased to 1,651,834.
The number of new infected people and victims is only partially comparable to the values of the previous week, as the RKI expected fewer tests and fewer reports from health authorities during the holidays and at the end of the year. According to the latest information from the institute, 348 deaths were recorded from the pandemic in 24 hours. The total number of registered corona deaths in Germany since the start of the pandemic has risen to 30,126. On Wednesday, the RKI announced a record 962 deaths. The RKI estimated the number of people recovered from a corona infection in Germany at around 1,255,700.
The so-called seven-day incidence was 157.8 on Monday. The day before it was 161.3. Its previous high was reached last Tuesday at 197.6. The value is the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants during this period. The seven-day incidence is a fundamental measure for the imposition and relaxation of measures against the spread of the new virus. The goal of the federal government is to reduce the incidence below 50.
However, the differences in the seven-day incidence between the federal states are huge: Saxony had the highest incidence on Monday with 371.3 and Thuringia with 288.2, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania had the lowest value with 77.0 .
According to the RKI report on Sunday, the seven-day national R-value was 0.83 (Saturday: 0.89). This R-value means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 83 more people. The value represents the appearance of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides. In its report, however, the RKI emphasizes that during the holidays and at the turn of the year corona cases are only displayed, recorded and transmitted late, “so the R-value can also be underestimated.”
In Germany, a harsh blockade has been maintained since December 16. Most of the stores are closed. Schools and kindergartens also largely closed. The measures are initially limited to January 10. The federal and state governments will likely discuss how to proceed on January 5.
