As of Thursday, those affected not only have to quarantine at home as before, but must also immediately present the result of a test to the health department, as announced on Tuesday by the Minister of Health in Dresden.

The test must not take more than 24 hours on arrival. However, it can also be completed on arrival or retrieved up to 48 hours later. The quarantine after entry from a risk zone is ten days.

Testing all immigrants should help identify and prevent chains of infection, he said. The costs will be borne by those affected. The obligation to perform the test can be fulfilled by a PCR test or a rapid antigen test.

Cross-border travelers traveling from Saxony to neighboring countries or vice versa for work, apprenticeships or studies are required to undergo regular testing on their own account, at least twice a week. This rule applies as of January 11.

Saxony Health Minister Petra Köpping (62, SPD) was two hours late for the online press conference after a consultation with City and Community Day. There was no talk of a relief from the crown situation, the number of infections and the number of deaths were too high, he said. It will take a few days to know if the measures adopted have taken effect.

She hopes the trend won’t worsen again over the Christmas holidays: “Personally, I don’t think we can announce any relaxation after January 10.”

According to Köpping, Saxony has so far received around 34,000 doses of vaccines. Another 34,000 will follow on Wednesday. By Monday night, 657 people in Saxony had been vaccinated, 192 of them in nursing homes.

You are still trying to figure out why the RKI is reporting different numbers and where the error is. The RKI had indicated 857 vaccinations for Saxony on Tuesday.

Köpping described the logistics of vaccination as a daunting task. At the same time, he asked for her indulgence if things didn’t go well from the start. There is a very complicated situation, especially in nursing homes. Currently, 280 of the nearly 1,000 care centers are affected by infections.

According to Köpping, mobile teams have so far been deployed and hospital staff are also being vaccinated. Vaccination centers in the counties and urban districts are expected to go live on January 11. People who have already received Corona should not be vaccinated at this time.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported Tuesday that the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days for Saxony was 364.7, slightly lower than the previous day (371.3). This means that the Free State remains the biggest focus of the pandemic in a national comparison.

Across Germany, the incidence value on Tuesday was 149.2. In Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Bremen and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania it was below the 100 mark.
