The Greens in Saxony-Anhalt are increasing pressure in the dispute over an increase in the radio license fee. Threats to the CDU more clearly than before with the breakdown of the coalition, if the Union actually stops the amendment of the state media treaty along with the votes of the AfD.

The SPD and the Greens had also expressed criticism of public broadcasting, but now they want to accept the new rules and the increase in rates. The opposition left had considered voting against it for a time, but now supports the treaty.
But the AfD, for whom public service broadcasting is an enemy, wants to vote against it. Given that the CDU and the AfD hold the majority of the seats in the state parliament, a “no” from the two parliamentary groups would stop the rate hike, reduce the contract and possibly also break the ruling coalition.
So far, the Greens have been reluctant to warn the CDU. Ahead of the party’s state conference on Friday night and an important committee meeting in the state parliament next Wednesday, the tone is now noticeably higher.
“We will do everything in our power to stay in contact with our partners until we agree to find a solution. But there is a limit, and it will be exceeded when the CDU becomes an ally of the AfD ”, the leader of the Green parliamentary group Cornelia Lüddemann told SPIEGEL.

In Saxony-Anhalt there will be state elections next June. Prime Minister Haseloff wants to run again. If the coalition collapsed now, it could ask for the vote of confidence, which would lead to new snap elections. Or the CDU might have to rule as a minority government without its own majority until the elections.
