After the knife attack on a 14-year-old girl at a school in Salzwedel, a girl of the same age must remain in custody. The student was charged with attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm, a police spokeswoman in Salzwedel said on Tuesday. The reason is unclear.

The 14-year-old is said to have attacked a classmate with a knife in class on Monday afternoon and injured her back. According to the police spokeswoman, initial interviews with classmates did not reveal any evidence of an argument. The girl herself has yet to comment on the background. The injured child continues to receive medical treatment. There was no danger to life, a police spokeswoman said.

A similar case also occurred on Monday in Östringen in the Karlsruhe district. During school holidays, a 13-year-old boy is said to have stabbed the upper body of a classmate of the same age with a knife multiple times. According to the police, the wounded man was out of danger. The youths had long disagreed and there was no evidence of a specific motive for the attacker on Tuesday.
