Very few people believed that FC Bayern could triple last season. Four such last minute transfers probably won’t either. The people of Munich can surprise.
Talent Marc Roca, returnees Douglas Costa, veteran Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Nobody Bouna Sarr – all names one wouldn’t necessarily look for in the luxury department of the European soccer market.
But that wasn’t the goal in recent days either. At least not for Bayern. Anyway, the costly transfer of the king was made with Leroy Sané.
Sports director and squad planner Hasan Salihamidzic had to make up for lost quality (Thiago, Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Perisic) and make the squad weatherproof for tough and stormy times. Each position must be filled twice. With players who already meet the highest standards and not predominantly with talents who have not yet provided this proof.
Heading into the next XXL season, the squad needs as much depth as never before. And the goals are no more modest in Munich.
Hansi Flick has asked for reinforcements, Salihamidzic has given them.
It remains to be seen who will attack now or not. If controversial characters like Costa, who has already been branded a “mercenary”, also fit into the established structure of Bayern.
The team makes a strong impression across the board. It was economically sensible. With one exception, financial and sports risk is limited for all short-term transfers.

Why are Bayern hosting Sarr?
However, Sarr’s commitment raises questions.
So far, the 28-year-old has spoken little internationally. In fact, they wanted to get Sergiño Dest, Sarr is nine years older. Still equipped with a four-year contract, Bayern put up ten million euros.
Furthermore, young hopeful Chris Richards has indicated what he can do as a right back against Hertha BSC. It won’t be easier for him and super talent Jamal Musiala in the now expanded roster to get regular playing time.
The fact that Bayern consciously chose this personal path shows the ambitions of this club.
Still, defending the triple with this squad would be a real surprise. But you can surprise in Munich.
