northBefore as many ATMs exploded in Germany as this year. That was the result of a survey conducted by WELT AM SONNTAG among the offices of the state criminal police. According to this, there were 390 explosions until December 16, the deadline for the uprising.
This means that the previous record for 2018 was broken before Christmas. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, an ATM was blown up 369 times in Germany. In 2019, this was the case for 349 machines.
The State Criminal Investigation Office in Saxony was the only federal state that did not provide any accurate information, only talking about explosions in the “single digit range” for 2020. This year, too, not all explosions were successful. In 160 cases the perpetrators got the cash, in 230 cases something went wrong.
According to WELT AM SONNTAG, North Rhine-Westphalia will again be the leader among the federal states in 2020. By December 16, 174 machines had flown there (including attempts), in all of 2019 there were 105. Then Lower Saxony (45), Baden-Württemberg (36) and Rhineland-Palatinate (34).
