The 40-year-old woman is suspected of killing her four-year-old son, as the Verden prosecutor announced. The boy’s body was recovered from the river on Friday night. As announced by the prosecution late at night, an investigating judge ordered that the mother be temporarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

The woman had stayed with her son in the Rotenburg hospital. However, she suddenly disappeared with the boy on Thursday night. Then the hospital informed the police. Then the woman was found around 11 pm in the city, without the child, as announced by the prosecutor. Then there was a search operation that soon led the police to the place where the boy was found.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the background of the case remains open. Investigators hope to get more information from the autopsy on the body, which is therefore scheduled for the weekend at the earliest. A spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office said that the child “needed treatment” for the reason of the stay at the clinic.
