Former Little Glenn bassist Charles Glenn told the TMZ portal in the United States: “Richard has been ill for two months. He died at his home in Tennessee.” His brother, sister and son were with him. Glenn himself last spoke to Little Richard in late March and wanted to visit him. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, this was not possible. It is not known what disease the deceased suffered.
On the move in different areas of music.
Music icon Little Richard is the creator of numerous hits. Including “Tutti Frutti”, “Long Tall Sally” and “Rip It Up”, all since 1956. Followed by “Lucille” in 1957 and “Good Golly Miss Molly”, to name just a few songs with catchy tunes.
After several apparently formative experiences in the late 1950s, among other things, he had interpreted the bright propeller engines of an airplane as the appearance of an angel, became a priest, and devoted himself to gospel music. A return to the soul and funk followed in the mid-1960s. In the late 1970s he retired again to return to the gospel genre.
In 2013, at the age of 80, he declared his final retirement in an interview. Back then he had said to “Rolling Stone”: “I’m done!” (German: I’m done). Before, he had been in the rock area again.
Richard Wayne Penniman, the true name of the artist born in 1932, is one of the great stars of the early hours of rock’n’roll. The Beatles once described it as a major source of inspiration. It was also an important source of inspiration for Elvis.
