A mandatory month-long break for restaurants and bars, cultural and leisure facilities should stop the trend from next week. Furthermore, the number of people who are allowed to gather in private and public spaces is strictly limited. Hotels can no longer accept tourists. Unlike the spring, schools, daycare centers, and retailers will remain open.
Brinkhaus: The extension of the confinement is not ruled out
The leader of the union parliamentary group Ralph Brinkhaus did not rule out the fact that the recently decided partial closure will remain in effect longer than at the end of November. “The plan is to relax in December. No one can guarantee that,” Brinkhaus told Funke newspapers. “But the fact is: without doing something, we certainly won’t have a good December. We have to fight.”
In some federal states, the resolutions have already been included in state ordinances. Other countries do not want to determine how the stricter regulations will be implemented until the weekend. From the point of view of the federal government, the requirements of the federal-state resolution of Wednesday “allow in any case the implementation through state ordinances in a constitutionally permissible manner.”
Merkel wants to help the economy “quickly and without bureaucracy”
The cultural and hospitality sectors are protesting violently against the closures. Chancellor Angela Merkel once again assured the economy of support in her latest video podcast. “We are not going to leave companies and businesses that have gotten into trouble through the current crisis without guilt,” said the CDU politician. “We want to help quickly and without bureaucracy.” On Wednesday, he will speak with major employers’ and industry associations about how the effects of the crisis can be further cushioned.
Merkel justified the harsh interventions in the coming weeks. “This second wave of the pandemic makes it necessary to act quickly and consistently,” he said. “We have to stop the rapid increase in the number of infections before our healthcare system becomes overloaded.” From a science point of view, it is clear that you should meet as few people as possible who can become infected.

Merkel admitted that the measures were “harsh” and those affected rightly pointed to the main burdens. In many cases, it now affects companies, freelancers or associations that have had to accept losses in sales since the start of the pandemic.
The chancellor referred to additional aid of up to ten billion euros for the affected areas and assured: “The Federal Government will continue to do everything necessary to limit the burden of the pandemic for the economy and therefore also for employment and our prosperity, and at the same time to protect the health of all of us. “
A wave of lawsuits against the crown measures is expected
Lawyers expect a wave of lawsuits. The first urgent applications have already been received at the Berlin Administrative Court.
