Around 2,700 new infections more than a week ago – Corona numbers continue to rise. The Berchtesgaden district reached its peak: today a regional blockade goes into effect. The situation is not only critical there.
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), German health authorities reported 6,868 new corona infections in 24 hours. The value is well above the 4122 cases reported on Tuesday of last week.
The district most affected by the corona virus is Berchtesgadener Land. The seven-day incidence in the Upper Bavaria district was 236 (as of October 20, 12:00 am). Even with 50 new infections per 100,000 residents in a week, the federal and state governments speak of a warning value.
Regional closure in Berchtesgadener Land
As of today, there is a regionally restricted lockdown in Berchtesgadener Land: you can only leave your own apartment “if there are good reasons”, for example to go to work, go shopping or play sports outdoors. But alone or with members of his own household, as district manager Bernhard Kern said. Events are prohibited and schools, kindergartens and leisure facilities are closed. There are strict prohibitions on visiting clinics, the elderly, and nursing homes. The restrictions should initially last 14 days.
Seven-day incidence in many counties over 100
So far, no comparable measures had to be taken in any other region of Germany, but the number of infections is also high in other districts. Delmenhorst in Lower Saxony is the second place in Germany where the seven-day incidence is more than 200 to 211.5. In many other areas, the value has now exceeded 100. In many places, health authorities can no longer trace all contacts of people who have tested positive.
Nationwide, the number of new infections reached 7,830 for the third time in a row on Saturday, a high since the start of the corona pandemic. However, the current values are only partially comparable with those of the spring, because now many more tests are being carried out and therefore more infections are discovered.
R value at 1.35
According to experts, recently reported infections are an indication of how strong the virus was in society about a week ago due to the time between infection, test, result, and report. That is why it will take some time before policy measures can be reflected in the registration figures.
The number of views, or R-value for short, was 1.35 in Germany according to RKI’s management report on Monday (previous day: 1.44). This means that ten infected people infect an average of 13 to 14 more people. The R value represents the infection rate approximately one and a half weeks earlier. In addition, the RKI includes the so-called seven-day R in its management report. The value refers to a longer period of time and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value is now 1.25 (previous day: 1.35). It shows the infection process from 8 to 16 days ago.
According to the RKI, at least 373,167 people in Germany have been shown to have been infected with the virus since the beginning of the Corona crisis (as of October 20, 12:00 am). Therefore, the number of deaths related to a corona infection was 9836. That was 47 more than the day before. According to RKI estimates, around 298,300 have been recovered.
