The RKI reports 3,856 new infections, that is, about 480 more cases than a week ago. The seven-day incidence remains at 59; from a value below 35 there should be more blocking openings.

In Germany, 3,856 new corona virus infections were recorded in one day. In addition, 528 more deaths were recorded in 24 hours, according to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The data reflects the state at midnight; later changes or additions are possible. Exactly a week ago, the RKI had recorded 3,379 new infections and 481 new deaths in one day, with around 600 cases of infection from North Rhine-Westphalia missing, which were only included in the statistics the next day.

In the case of new infections, the highest value was reached on December 18, with 33,777, but it contained 3,500 late reports. The number of recently reported deaths peaked at 1,244 on January 14.

The seven-day incidence remains at 59

The seven-day incidence, that is, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported in seven days, is 59 across the country and is therefore similar to the previous day, but again slightly higher than the weekend. The goal of the federal and state governments is a value of 50 to alleviate the health system, a permanent value below 35 that they have promised more lockdown openings.

Four weeks ago, on January 17, the incidence had been 136. Its previous peak was reached on December 22 at 197.6. Most federal states continue to see a seven-day drop in incidents, according to the RKI.

The R value is 0.86

The RKI has counted 2,342,843 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher as many infections go undetected. The total number of people who died with or with a documented Sars-CoV-2 infection increased to 65,604.

According to RKI’s management report on Monday night, the national seven-day R-value was 0.86 (previous day 0.88). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 86 more people. The value represents the appearance of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection rate decreases.
