Yes, to better food labeling and also to the tax exemption for electric cars: the Federal Council has cleared the way for these ordinances. Also, more people should get the crown premium.

With a traffic light system, consumers in Germany will in the future be able to better recognize how healthy or unhealthy food is. The Federal Council approved an ordinance that paves the way for the introduction of the new “Nutri-Score” logo for many foods in Germany.

Labeling on the front of finished product packages is intended to facilitate healthier eating for consumers. However, use by the manufacturer is voluntary. The regulation is expected to go into effect in early November.

The system comes from France. Ingredients like sugar, fat, and salt, as well as recommended ingredients, like dietary fiber, are included in an overall evaluation. From this, a single value is calculated and indicated on a five-point scale: from “A” in a dark green field for the most favorable balance to a yellow “C” to a red “E” for the most unfavorable. .

Road tax reform

Now the vehicle tax reform has also been decided. It will increase from 2021 for new fuel-efficient cars. This aims to encourage citizens to buy cheaper cars.

Vehicles that have already been registered are not affected. In the future, vehicle taxes will focus more on the amount of CO2 a car emits. Depending on the level of emissions, it increases in stages of two to four euros per gram of carbon dioxide per kilometer. Also, the CO2 component has more weight than the displacement.

Additional tax exemption for electric cars

Consumers with electric vehicles will continue to receive vehicle tax breaks. The Federal Council extended the ten-year tax exemption for electric vehicles. With the relevant law, the federal government wants to contribute to the fact that seven to ten million electric vehicles will be registered in Germany by 2030 and, as a result, CO2 emissions will decrease.

After the approval of the regional chamber, the law now has to be signed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier before it can go into effect. Based on this, fully electric vehicles with initial registration from May 18, 2011 through December 31, 2025 are exempt from vehicle tax. So far, the exemption only applied to approvals or modifications until the end of 2020.

More money for hospitals and nurses

The state chamber also approved billions in funding for hospitals and the Corona premium for clinic nurses.

The so-called future program foresees a one-time financial injection from the federal government worth three billion euros to advance investments in modern emergency capacities and IT equipment in hospitals.

In addition to the nursing staff in the nursing homes, the clinic employees now also receive a crown bonus.
