Could a vaccine arrive earlier than expected? According to a newspaper report, the federal government is at least making the necessary preparations. Therefore, the Biontech vaccine could still be approved this year.
The federal government appears to have made specific preparations for potential coronavirus vaccines this year. According to the newspaper “Bild”, this week the Federal Ministry of Health requested by mail to the state governments to provide the addresses of the vaccination centers for the vaccine before November 10. A total of 60 such centers will be built throughout the country.
According to the newspaper “Bild”, vaccination centers are necessary to guarantee the efficacy of the vaccine. This has to be cooled to minus 78 degrees, but many medical practices lack the necessary high-performance cooling devices.
In a video conference of health ministers earlier in the week, according to the newspaper’s report, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn said that Mainz’s Biontech company is about to approve a vaccine. When asked when he expected the first vaccines, Spahn told the group: “That could happen before the end of the year,” the newspaper “Bild” quoted the conference participants.
Work on vaccines against the new virus is currently under great pressure around the world. Biontech works together with the American company Pfizer. There are more than 40 substances in clinical trials around the world.
