Regional crown: where the situation in Germany is particularly worrying

Is the district you currently live in bright red, red, or dark red?

Overviews and district maps with information on new corona infections are currently ubiquitous, and despite differences in details, the overall impression is currently bleak, thus often quite red.

With some exceptions, the number of new confirmed infections in German cities and districts is currently above the predicted threshold of 50 cases per week and 100,000 inhabitants. In other words: the infection rate almost everywhere exceeds the ability of health authorities to follow up on contacts.

But even if the map, which is almost completely red, conveys a fairly uniform image, it is the current one. Dynamik im Detail very different.

About 33 million people live in regions where the number of new reported infections has dropped by at least a quarter over the course of the week. Another 26 million live in regions where development is stagnating, and where around 24 million people live, the number has recently increased by at least 25 percent.
