An authority in North Rhine-Westphalia has recalled two corona rapid tests that were sold at gas stations, supermarkets or veterinary clinics. If they were not used by specialists, they could have “catastrophic consequences of infection,” the Cologne district government said of the tests being illegally traded across the country.
The district government warned against alleged safety through false negative tests when misuse by lay people, especially before the upcoming Christmas holidays, before which many people want to get tested quickly before going to their grandparents , for example. Nor can the risk of injury be ruled out.
According to the information, the evidence was put into circulation by a Frechen company and can therefore be freely acquired by private clients without specialist knowledge. Products are affected:
-
“Covid-19 Ag Test” from the manufacturer nal von minden GmbH
-
»Blnk Novel Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) Antigen Rapid Test Cassette (swab)« from Herstellers Hangzhou Realy Tech Co.
The district government urgently warns untrained individuals against purchasing and using the rapid test independently. Currently the rapid tests are still partially open and taken out of the large original packaging at the sales counter.
Together with the Hürth criminal police and the responsible public order office, the district government, according to its own statements, searched the business and private premises of the Frechen businessman, who is said to have put the evidence into circulation.
An up-to-date list of customers was also secured there, which will now be used for the callback. The customer list includes around 5,700 corona rapid test customers throughout Germany, of which between 4,000 and 4,500 customers should not have received the test.
Regardless of the specific case, the use of rapid tests in the private sector is problematic for several reasons. They are considered to be less reliable than standard PCR tests, and lay people will find it very difficult to collect the sample themselves. Read more about it here: Negative Christmas Everywhere.
