Protests against crown policy in Weil am Rhein: Federal Constitutional Court confirms ban on demonstration of “lateral thinking”

A “lateral thinking” demonstration was planned for this Saturday afternoon in Weil am Rhein. However, the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe has upheld the ban on the meeting. The court rejected an urgent request from the initiators on Saturday, a spokesman for the dpa news agency said. Therefore, the ban on demonstrations is maintained. Details on the rationale are not yet available.

The city of Weil am Rhein in Baden-Württemberg, which lies directly in the Germany-Switzerland-France border triangle, had banned the demonstration for fear that the virus could spread in the big event. The Lörrach district in particular is particularly affected by the virus. It is feared that the situation could get even worse as a result of the “lateral thinking” meeting.

In neighboring Switzerland, the number of infections had skyrocketed recently, intensive care beds had been filled, hospitals had reached their limit (you can find more about this on the international Eight Billion podcast).

The ban on demonstrations in Weil am Rhein had already been upheld by various courts: the Freiburg Administrative Court and the Mannheim Administrative Court. In early December, for example, in Dresden and Frankfurt, the Federal Constitutional Court finally banned “lateral thinking” meetings.
