Bad news for all Netflix fans.
The streaming provider is getting more expensive, at least for some of its customers in Germany. However, the price increase does not affect the base rate, which will continue to be 7.99 euros per month. The company announced it to the German Press Agency in Berlin.
The standard rate (including HD quality and reception on two devices at the same time) will cost € 12.99 per month in the future, which is € 1 more. The premium rate (quality and reception Ultra HD, HDR and Dolby Atmos on four devices) will cost 17.99 euros instead of 15.99 euros in the future. The basic rate, on the other hand, reproduces the image in SD quality and does not allow simultaneous transmission on more than one device.
The tariffs went into effect Thursday. New members will see the new price immediately. It will be rolled out for existing affected customers in the coming months; According to Netflix, they will be notified at least 30 days before a change takes effect.
“We change prices from time to time to continue investing in entertainment and to constantly expand the portfolio of movies and series,” said a Netflix spokesperson.
It is important that the streaming provider offers “constantly increasing value” for users in Germany. “In the last two years, in addition to international productions, we have also greatly increased our investments in German-speaking countries and brought more German content to the screen; we will expand this further in 2021.” The spokesperson added: “The price of our base rate will be maintained and will not increase.”
