One day before the DFB Cup match against SC Freiburg, third-division soccer club SV Waldhof Mannheim had two positive results after crown tests. However, there is no threat that the cup game will be canceled.

On Saturday, two corona positive tests from people at SV Waldhof Mannheim were reported to the Mannheim Health Department. The club announced it in a press release. Initially, there was speculation about a possible cancellation of the cup match against SC Freiburg. But since Saturday night it has become clear that the game can take place on Sunday (6:30 pm) as scheduled.

People with a positive corona test are a player and a person from the team’s environment, according to the club. The Mannheim health department had initially ordered that the entire team, coaching staff and some employees be isolated at home as a precaution until close contact persons were identified. All people are symptom free.

Identified contact persons

Late on Saturday night, SV Waldhof announced that close contacts could be identified. “A 14-day quarantine was ordered for three people, in addition to the two who tested positive,” the message read.

For the rest of the players there is currently no increased risk of infection from the medical point of view due to the investigations of the health department. “From the point of view of the health department, there is nothing to prevent the cup match against SC Freiburg scheduled for tomorrow,” he continues.

Close coordination between the club, the authority and the DFB

The authority had previously ordered that the entire team, the coaching staff and some employees be quarantined at home until further notice. The decision was finally made after close coordination between the club and the authorities and the German Football Federation (DFB).

In a series of tests last Tuesday, everyone in the test group tested negative. Symptoms did not occur even after positive tests, the club said. After the results, the health department wanted to classify the contact persons of those affected.
