The American pharmaceutical company Pfizer operates a major plant in the municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands with a population of just 25,900. Hundreds of thousands of finished doses of a corona vaccine are stored there!
The agent’s name: BNT162b2. According to “Mail on Sunday”, the vaccine is ready to be introduced worldwide. But: Clinical studies have not yet been completed and approval is pending. Pfizer developed the active ingredient together with the Mainz company Biontech. The two companies began the registration study in late July. It was originally intended to include up to 30,000 subjects between the ages of 18 and 85, but was expanded to around 44,000 participants for more data. The US health authority FDA recently gave the green light to the participation of adolescents aged twelve years and over.
Pfizer and Biontech said they could know if the vaccine was working as of the end of October. By the third week of November there might be enough safety data. Then an emergency permit must be applied for in the USA.
This is the so-called mRNA vaccine: for this, cells are encoded with selected genetic information from the virus, which is then injected. So the body must make a protein to fight the virus.
According to the Pfizer website, the Belgian plant with its 2,500 employees has a capacity of 400 million units. Biontech and Pfizer also have locations in Germany. It is not known whether vaccine doses are already stored on a large scale in this country. However, it was said that the corona vaccine was also being produced in Mainz and Idar-Oberstein.
