reFormer CDU Secretary General Peter Tauber ended his political career. In a letter to the members of his constituency, the current Secretary of State for Defense announced that he no longer wanted to run in the 2021 federal elections. “After careful consideration, personal and family reasons prompted me to make this decision,” he says the letter that the German Press Agency has received and about which the “Funke Mediengruppe” reported for the first time.

“It is not just my health situation that plays a role, but also the idea of seeking and accepting new professional challenges,” continues Tauber. It is no secret that family means a lot to him and that he sees the center of his life in Gelnhausen in Hesse. “In the long run, the task in Berlin is detrimental.” The last few years have partly pushed it to its limits. But he’s still connected to the CDU. He will also participate in the upcoming local elections in Hesse.

Tauber was general secretary of the CDU from 2013 to 2018. During this time, he had also campaigned against internal party resistance in favor of an immigration and dual citizenship law. Both are now represented by the CDU.

The 46-year-old also campaigned to make the CDU “younger, more feminine and more colorful.” Opening the party to lesbians and gays was also a concern for him: the CDU’s constitution and structural committee is currently working to anchor Lesbians and Gays in the Union (LSU) as a so-called special organization with a permanent place in the match. .

Tauber has been a member of the CDU since 1992, and from 2003 to 2009 he was the state president of the Junge Union in Hesse. The historian with a doctorate has been in the Bundestag since October 2009.
