The case is reminiscent of Jeffrey Epstein’s system: For decades, Peter Nygard is said to have lured young women to the Bahamas to abuse them. His lawyer sees a conspiracy behind the accusations and an arch-nemesis of the billionaire.

PEther Nygard has been arrested in Winnipeg, Canada on suspicion of sex trafficking and other crimes. An extradition request from the US Department of Justice has been filed against the Finnish-Canadian fashion entrepreneur. The 79-year-old man is accused of having sexually abused women and girls in the past 25 years.

Nygard’s attorney denied the allegations and spoke of an ambush: “It all stems from a hedge fund billionaire billionaire Louis Bacon conspiracy theory.” This was initially unavailable for comment. Nygard and Bacon (a hedge fund manager) have had a neighborhood fight for years in the Bahamas, where they both own large properties.

The “New York Times” (NYT) tracked the hatred between two billionaires in a February 2020 article. Therefore, the discussion was sparked on a construction project. Both parties now employ highly paid attorneys who sue each other. They accuse each other seriously: Nygard accuses Bacon of murder and membership of the Ku Klux Klan, according to “NYT”. Bacon, in turn, claims that Nygard is planning an assassination plot against him and, ultimately, that Nygard is responsible for the sexual abuse of minors.

The FBI investigated Nyland’s company in February

The allegations against Nygard are reminiscent of the Jeffrey Epstein case: Nygard is said to have lured young women living in poverty to his property in the Bahamas with false promises of money or the prospect of modeling and fashion careers over a 30-year period. . Several women allege in a lawsuit filed in New York City (and, according to “NYT,” funded by Bacon) that they were only 14 or 15 years old when Nygard drugged, drunk and raped them.

The US federal FBI and New York police had already searched Nygard’s company headquarters in February as part of an investigation into sex trafficking. Also in February, a class-action lawsuit was filed against Nygard in New York alleging that he had raped multiple women. As the “NYT” reports, there have been several accusations against Nygard by Canadian women over the past decades. However, he was never convicted.

The company is now insolvent

The Canadian media put Nygard’s fortune at the equivalent of about 580 million euros. His company, which was founded in 1967, initially produced primarily sportswear and over the years expanded to include other fashion brands, which were sold primarily in Canada. Nygard International filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Nygard’s lawyer was confident of victory: his client was assuming an acquittal in court. His first task now is to request bail, Prober said. The next court hearing is scheduled for January 13.
