In Saturday’s chase, the Germans had nothing to do with the top spots. A day later, at the beginning of Mass, things looked very different. Two Germans participated at the front.
Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer gave the German biathletes their first win of the season in the first massive outing of the winter World Cup. Peiffer (33) prevailed at Hochfilzen after 15km after an impeccable shooting performance in the final sprint against Sweden’s Martin Ponsiluoma.
Minor with two Penalty loops
Benedikt Doll (1 shot error / + 11.7 seconds) missed the podium for just a few seconds as fourth, while Norway’s Tarjei Bö (1 / + 9.3) was third. Erik Lesser had to be content with 17th place after two penalties and a difference of 1: 04.4 minutes.
In Friday’s sprint, DSV athletes with places outside the top 20 had a debacle before Doll improved to 13th in the chase on Saturday.
In the new year, the biathletes will have for the first time the World Cup at double home in Oberhof (from January 8 to 10 and from January 13 to 17). The highlight of the season, the World Cup in Pokljuka / Slovenia, will take place from February 10 to 21.
