Pascal Bruckner’s book “Imaginary Racism”

rehe book by Pascal Bruckner, a renowned French intellectual, has become surprisingly current due to the Islamist terrorist attacks in recent weeks. It was published in France in 2017, and some of the reviewed essays and newspaper articles that the author has compiled in it date back a decade. But the terrorist attacks in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, near Paris, in Nice and elsewhere have sparked politics and promoted the urgency for more decisive action against Islamist threats, something Bruckner has been demanding for some time.

One of his theses is that, despite the harsh words of changing governments, the reality – the spread of jihadism among French Muslims, especially in the run-down neighborhoods of metropolises, but also through illegal immigration – has been repeatedly misunderstood. It also didn’t help that scientists and top officials often drew attention to alarming developments.
