Health Minister Spahn has urged the implementation of the new rules in the fight against the corona virus. Bavarian Prime Minister Söder also stressed that reducing contacts is the only concept against the virus.
The partial blockade at the national level, which aims to slow the rapid spread of the corona virus in Germany, has been in effect since today. At ZDF, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn urged citizens to significantly reduce their contacts in light of the pandemic.
To properly address the “situation of the century” of the corona pandemic, a “national effort in November” is necessary, Spahn said in “heute-journal.” For kindergartens and schools to remain open, contacts would have to be reduced “even further”. Spahn was confident that, as with the spring measures, the November restrictions could significantly slow the spread of the new corona virus.

“It doesn’t work at all without government action”
The advantage is that more is now known about the pathogen and its distribution. “We can deal better with this virus every month,” Spahn said. The last weeks with the high number of new infections in Germany had also shown that it would not work entirely without government measures to contain the pandemic, emphasized the Minister of Health. The number of Covid-19 intensive care patients in Germany tripled in the last two weeks.
Foreign Minister Helge Braun was also skeptical that the now applicable partial blockade measures could be withdrawn in a short time. “I do not think it is likely that we can relax the measures in two weeks,” said the CDU politician in the ARDBroadcast “Anne Will”. In general, however, it firmly assumes “that the infection process is actually slowing down significantly with the measures we have now decided on.” Overall success depends on the will of each individual. The spirit that reigned in March is needed again this winter.
Söder sees no alternative
In light of criticism from parts of the economy, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder defended the new measures. “The alternative would be to let it go,” the CSU chief said in “Anne Will.” But that would mean a huge increase in infections. The result is crowded hospitals and ultimately high death rates. “There is no other concept in the whole world than to reduce contacts to react to Corona,” Söder said. “If there was a better and lighter one, we would use it immediately.” In addition, the current blockage is lighter than in spring and in other European countries.
To this day, restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities throughout Germany must be closed as much as possible. Stricter rules also apply to personal gatherings: in most federal states, only the gathering of two households is allowed; in some cases, this even applies to meetings in private rooms.
