After the “blocking of the breakwater” by Chancellor Merkel and the prime minister, the Bavarian cabinet met. Prime Minister Söder explains an extension of the regulation.
In the fight against the corona virus, even more stringent contact restrictions will be applied in Bavaria from 2 November than agreed by the federal and state governments, specifically also in private rooms.
In addition, all kinds of events are prohibited until the end of November, and not only those that serve as entertainment. Exceptions only apply to religious services and demonstrations. The Bavarian cabinet decided on Thursday in Munich.
In Bavaria, therefore, it is generally mandatory that, regardless of where, only members of your own household and of another household can meet, with a maximum of ten people in total. Wednesday’s federal-state resolution had explicitly regulated this only for “staying in public.”
The “most serious” events are also prohibited in Bavaria.
“Additional groups of people celebrating in public places, apartments and private facilities are unacceptable in view of the dire situation in our country,” the newspaper said on Wednesday. Therefore, the regulation in Bavaria is even stricter.
Furthermore, “more serious” events, such as club meetings, are also prohibited in Bavaria. The federal and state governments only agreed to ban entertainment events on Wednesday. Here too the Free State is taking a tougher line.
Bavaria is considering declaring a disaster
Due to the increasing number of corona infections, Bavaria will soon consider declaring a disaster again. In the coming days this could be necessary in order to better react to the “dramatic development,” Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) said after Thursday’s cabinet meeting.
In Bavaria, intensive care bed occupancy doubled in nine days, and capacity bottlenecks loomed in some regions in the coming days. By declaring a disaster, the country could better coordinate the distribution of intensive care patients.
In the Free State, the State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) reported 3,057 new corona infections on Thursday, Söder reported. “That is a new record.”
