Paris Saint-Germain can still win. But also the third attempt of the new season in Ligue 1 put a tremendous strain on manager Thomas Tuchel’s nerves.

After two 0-1 bankruptcies against Lens and Marseille, it looked like the still useless FC Metz until well into injury time after the next setback for the series champions. (The game on TICKER to read)

In the 90 + 3 minutes Julian Draxler launched his colors with the first goal of the season, it should be the winning goal.

PSG had struggled to create chances for a long time, while Metz kept punctures on the counterattack.

Making matters worse for Tuchel’s club was the fact that former Dortmund player Abdou Diallo saw a yellow-red card in the 65th minute for repeated foul play. Furthermore, Juan Bernat, who was only substituted in the second half, had to leave the field injured in the final phase.

PSG fights Metz with nine men

Thus, Paris had to finish the game with nine, as the exchange quota was already exhausted.

However, PSG showed morale and rewarded themselves with the winning goal in the third minute of injury time: Ángel Di María threw a strong ball in front of the goal from the left, which Metz goalkeeper Alexandre Oukidja only was able to dodge forwards.

There, the German world champion hit the penalty area and headed the ball over the goalkeeper lying on the ground towards the goal to make it 1-0. It was Draxler’s first goal in Ligue 1 since November 28, 2018.

Tuchel praises the “great mentality”

“In the first half, we lost our chances,” Tuchel said after the game. “But the players showed a great mentality, they went crazy.” Winning this game is extraordinary. “But we deserve it.”
