More than 31,000 people in Germany were reported to be infected with corona in one day. The number of deaths is also very high again.
German health authorities reported 31,300 new infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in one day. That comes from RKI’s information from Saturday morning.
Friday there was a peak of 33,777 infections reported, but it included about 3,500 cases reported the day before. As of Saturday of last week, the figure was 28,438.
702 new deaths
Health authorities also reported 702 new deaths in one day. The previous high of 952 deaths was reached on Wednesday. The number of daily deaths has tended to rise recently, which was expected after the sharp increase in new infections. The total number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection increased to 25,640.
In total, the Robert Koch Institute has counted 1,471,238 infections detected with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (until December 19, 00:00). Around 1,085,500 people are estimated to have recovered. The number of new infections reported to health authorities in seven days per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence of 7 days) was given by the RKI on Saturday at 189.6. This is the highest level since the pandemic began.
According to RKI’s management report on Friday, the national seven-day R-value was 1.05 (previous day: 0.97). This means that, in theory, 100 infected people infect 105 more people. The value represents the onset of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.
