It is a television explosion. Thomas Helmer will step down as moderator of the “Doppelpass” at Sport 1. Make way for RTL man Florian König. The change was made at Helmer’s urging.

meIt was after high school that Thomas Helmer considered becoming a journalist. Then he became a very successful footballer. Stations in Dortmund and Bavaria, among others, European champion in 1996. After retiring in November 2000, he had no big plans for his future, he once said.

According to his own information, he came to sports journalism by chance. Reporter on Sat.1, then DSF and, after a few alternate guest appearances, then moderator of “Doppelpass” on Sport1 station, which emerged from DSF. Since August 2015 he has been the head of the group as the successor to Jörg Wontorra. But that will soon be over. A television hammer.

According to information from “Sport Bild”, the football talk will have a new host in the next Bundesliga season. The racing series will run exclusively on Sky starting in 2021.

After Helmer, König is only the fourth moderator of the “Doppelpass”

The 53-year-old king will succeed Helmer from August 2021. According to the “Sport Bild” report, the 55-year-old approached Sport1 in the summer and wished he could resign in the future to have more time for the family. It airs 44 weekends a year in Munich. Helmer lives with actress Yasmina Filali and her two children in Hamburg and travels every time. “I would have liked to continue, but I would also have liked more time for possible new songs and projects in the future,” Helmer confirmed.

In 25 years of “double pass”, König will be only the fourth permanent presenter. His predecessors were Rudolph Brückner (1995 to 2004), Wontorra (2004 to 2015) and Helmer. Helmet’s contract with Sport1 expires in the summer of 2021. According to the magazine, it is already in talks with the broadcaster about a new collaboration. Helmer will host its latest “Doppelpass” broadcasts at the European Championships, which is scheduled for June 11 to July 11. In a sense, this closes the circle for the European champion.
