Car drives in a group of people – dead twelve years

In Kempen, in the Viersen district, a car collided with a group of people on a bike path and a sidewalk. According to police, the 30-year-old man from Kempen was on Tönisberger Strasse in the direction of Tönisvorst and then went off the road for an unexplained cause.
A twelve-year-old boy died in the accident and his 39-year-old mother was taken to hospital, seriously injured. Another child (2) who was in the stroller at the time of the accident was slightly injured. Another pedestrian, a 43-year-old man from Kempen, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Police currently have no indication of intent, but the investigation is ongoing. According to police, the road was wet from rain at the time of the crash.
Police, firefighters and rescue workers were at the scene with large numbers. According to information from our editorial team, there were also four emergency chaplains on duty.
According to a police spokesman, the unlit scene of the accident is on a long right-hand bend in a forest. The car skidded across the trail and bike path into a field, where it stopped.
The pram in which the two-year-old was riding was destroyed in the accident, as pictures show. The 43-year-old pedestrian does not belong to the family, according to police.
The road was closed for three hours.
