Nordhorn in Lower Saxony: Wolf apparently ran through the city center

A wolf is said to have roamed the center of Nordhorn, near the Dutch border. “We had numerous sightings,” a police spokesman said.

The wolf passed several batches. The animal was reported to be paralyzed and possibly injured.

In the afternoon, police officers and a wolf adviser followed the animal, police said. At first they considered stunning and capturing the wolf. “At some point he ran away at a gallop,” the police spokesman said.

He disappeared in the direction of an air force training area, which is also a wolf reserve. The assumption that the wolf was injured was not confirmed, police said late at night under the headline “Wolf Rising Warning.” No wolves have appeared on Nordhorn in the past. “Today was extraordinary,” said the announcer.

The risk to humans of being attacked by a wolf is usually very small. According to the nature and environment protection organization WWF, there is no documented case in Central Europe in which a healthy wild specimen has attacked a person. However, owners of grazing animals in particular are skeptical of the growing spread of animals in Germany. Wolves typically hunt roe deer, wild boar, and red deer, but they also hunt farm animals when the opportunity arises.
