No crown curfews yet, but FFP2 masks for seniors in Saxony

Saxon circles particularly affected by the corona pandemic should impose stricter restrictions to reduce the number of new infections. Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, Social Affairs Minister Petra Köpping and district administrators from the Bautzen, Görlitz and Erzgebirgskreis districts agreed on this in a conference call on Saturday. Accordingly, on Monday Bernd Lange, Michael Harig and Frank Vogel must first agree on a uniform procedure among themselves, but also coordinate with the other district administrators and mayors.

It was a good conversation, the deck stays out at first.

Free FFP2 Masks for ages 75+

The options named include even stricter visiting rules for hospitals and nursing homes, a ban on parents from entering daycare centers and schools, an extension of the mask requirement, for example, to large supermarket parking lots, and even more intensive controls. . The Minister of Social Affairs, Petra Köpping, stressed that the measures should also serve to protect the elderly. He announced that people 75 and older nationwide and people with significant pre-existing conditions will receive an FFP-2 mask at no charge. A problem is anticipated in pharmacies. Additionally, stores should recommend special shopping hours for seniors.

Curfew not planned (yet)

The general requirement of masks for schoolchildren in class and curfews such as in Berchtesgadener Land in Bavaria were reportedly addressed at the conference, but initially dropped. However, if the number of new infections in Saxony continues to rise, the curfew is no longer excluded, Kretschmer emphasized and announced more consultations next weekend. The five-man round agreed that next week will be decisive for the course of the pandemic in the Free State.

The infection rate in the Bautzen district and in the Erzgebirge district is so wide and high that only constant interruption of contact helps.

No possibility of quick loosening

Social Affairs Minister Köpping sees little chance for a quick relaxation of already existing crown restrictions. It is still too early for that and the situation is too dire. In spring and summer, Saxony advanced nationally with an extensive relaxation of crown restrictions. However, the infection figures would have allowed it at that time. However, not enough time has passed since the beginning of the current partial lock to see its effect. Furthermore, it is not yet possible to say exactly why the number of infections in Saxony has increased so rapidly recently. Köpping suspects that the causes are family and friends contacts, but also the proximity of the especially affected districts to the border.
