Is the next bottleneck looming?
J&J warns of delivery problems with corona vaccine
The US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson is expected to deliver more than 50 million doses to the EU in the second quarter. Shortly before the responsible EU authority approves the vaccine, the promise of delivery from the US company seems hesitant.
Another Covid-19 vaccine manufacturer may face administration problems. US pharmaceutical company Johnson & Johnson has told the EU that it is struggling with problems that could complicate the planned delivery of 55 million doses of vaccines in the second quarter. Last week, J&J announced that the company was “under stress” to meet its delivery target at the end of June due to problems with the supply of vaccine ingredients and equipment. According to the source, the group has said it will not rule out reaching the goal, but J&J is cautious.
J&J declined to comment on this, saying the group hoped to start delivering the promised vaccine doses to the European Union in the second quarter. A spokesman for the EU Commission declined to comment. The international community has obtained a total of 200 million cans from the company this year. The European Medicines Agency EMA is expected to give the green light for the use of the vaccine on March 11.
So far, the Covid-19 vaccines from Biontech / Pfizer, Moderna and Astrazeneca have been approved in the EU. There were also delivery delays here. The manufacturing process is complex, the facilities for it are limited and there are bottlenecks in the supply of components.
