As reported by the “Kölner Express”, the 40-year-old man had paid for the gas grill worth 899 euros at the supermarket self-service checkout and was gone. “I was happy that the grill cost so little,” said the woman in court. She assumed a computer error. And there was nothing he could do about it, he explained to the judge, apparently unaware of any guilt. The prosecution saw it quite differently. Based on their investigations, the customer had scanned the price of a printed canvas rather than the price of the grill at the register. A store detective, who was invited as a witness, claimed to have discovered a clipped tag in the prints department on the day of the crime. Additionally, the suspect targeted the self-service payment process, although a payment process in the market garden area would have been much closer. The prosecution could no longer prove that the original label was affixed. Then the trained nurse ran away with a small circulation of 200 euros. The judge even wanted to stop the trial without this “memo”.
