Eintracht Frankfurt fought for a point against the best team, RB Leipzig, on Saturday night. After fairly weak performances recently, the Hessians performed in better form against second in the table and posted a 1: 1 (1: 0). Aymen Barkok gave the hosts the lead in the first half (43rd), while substitute Yussuf Poulsen tied (57th).

Hütter confuses the starting eleven

Eintracht coach Adi Hütter had caused a surprise before kick-off and confused the starting line-up. After the Austrian had hardly ever rotated until now, he brought in five new players from the start against RB and helped Erik Durm, Djibril Sow, Evan N’Dicka and Aymen Barkok make their debut in the starting eleven this season.

A personal experiment against a superior team. A brave approach or a wrong approach? Clearly: the first. “Today we played very smartly tactically and adjusted the rooms,” Hütter said after the final whistle. “Leipzig have never won here so I’m happy today.”

Barkok rewards brave unity

On defense, which varied between a chain of four and five depending on the situation, Eintracht was much more compact compared to the previous weeks. The Hessians gave Leipzig very little space and managed to prevent RB’s dangerous offense from advancing. World champion training Durm proved against Angelino and Christopher Nkunku that at least he hasn’t forgotten the tickets, the rest were done by the gorilla trio Abraham-Hinteregger-N’Dicka.

He looked good against the ball, but a header from Martin Hinteregger (22nd minute) and a good counterattack with a weak shot from Kamada (30th) remained the only highlights for a long time. However, when Leipziger came to a complete stop shortly before the break after a long pass from N’Dicka and Barkok kept quiet, Eintracht were rewarded for their brave performance with a 1-0 lead at the break.

Poulsen comes and hits

Visiting coach Julian Nagelsmann, who visibly didn’t like the action on the grass, reacted with a triple change during the break, bringing in top two scorers Emil Forsberg and Poulsen, among others. The game with Leipzigers running and Frankfurters well defenders did not change anything, after two negligence in the defense of Eintracht, RB came to equalize. Durm gave Angelino too much time to cross, in the middle Poulsen prevailed against Hinteregger. It was already 1: 1 (57).

In the period that followed, the people of Leipzig showed that they are not in the top flight of the Bundesliga for nothing and that they want to be in the Champions League again this year. The Saxons tied the harmony more and more in their own half, the Frankfurt relay was very rare except for a chance from Silva (78th). As technician Hütter’s team was still very focused and courageous, the tie was won. In contrast to the division of points against Bielefeld, Cologne, Bremen and Stuttgart a result that can be seen.
