How exactly New Years Eve 2020 no one can tell exactly yet. One of the open questions is whether private fireworks will be allowed.

Some cities in NRW now they have established taboo zones for rockets and firecrackers.

Specific bans on firecrackers in NRW

Fireworks fans could take a deep breath. At the moment, there should be no national fireworks ban for New Years Eve 2020 on NRW. However, lighting fireworks in crowded places is prohibited.

This is how cities act in NRW:

  • Düsseldorf: The use of fireworks is prohibited in the old town.
  • Cologne: will also ban fireworks in the old town. In addition, it is currently being examined whether the ban should be extended to other parts of the city.
  • Münster: The bans should definitely apply to Domplatz and the station esplanade. The law enforcement office should monitor that.
  • Essen has yet to announce any action.

Last Wednesday (November 25) the representatives of the federal and state governments decided that the municipalities should decide themselves on the bans at the national level. However, it had been agreed that bans should be imposed in busy squares and streets.
